When will Three Chairs open?
We bought the building that will soon be Three Chairs in summer of 2026. Since then, we have been busy with the renovation process to make this the school of our dreams!   We will welcome our very first class in September 2027. 

How does the application process work?
First, BOOK A TOUR.  We will reach out to you to confirm a time.
Then, APPLY. We operate on a rolling admissions basis until our schoolhouse fills for our September 2027 startdate.

How many children attend Three Chairs?
We keep our schoolhouse intentionally small, with only 16 children and three teachers.

Why mixed age?
Children understand one another better than we understand them. A mixed age classroom allows for an exchange of ideas that simply can’t happen between adults and small children. Children demonstrate remarkable intuition for each other’s needs and abilities, and they naturally step in to support one another when needed. By staying in the same classroom for three years, children embody  a new role each year. First, the youngest children in the room often begin as “absorbers,” and each year, grow into “mentors.” This is demonstrated by how the oldest children in the room will eventually even give lessons to the younger children. Each new step allows children to unlock a new aspect of their capabilities! 

What does the kindergarten year at Three Chairs look like?
Personalized lessons based on teacher observations continue through their kindergarten year, with an added emphasis on accountability, such as completing lessons across the full curriculum. Children collaborate on writing their individualized weekly work plans, and ensure they are practicing daily, personally-challenging academic work as they prepare to enter first grade. The kindergarten year is a beautiful balance of continued self-exploration as well as a time to hone necessary executive functioning tools, literacy milestones, and a secure understanding of math operations, as they prepare for first grade.
