Perched on Smith Hill, Three Chairs provides a thoughtful and intimate Montessori education. Our one intentionally small classroom, a Primary House for children ages 3 to 6, is a world in which children learn from each other, contribute meaningfully, and follow their curiosity. Our teaching team is our leadership team, breaking down barriers between administration and education and allowing us to know our students and families fully. At Three Chairs, we are creating an environment where children tap into their natural tendencies to love others and to love learning.
Honor the child, educate for peace.
We believe that to best educate children, we need to observe them, learn them, and understand them. With only one classroom, led by the founder herself, we offer an intimate, close-knit community where teachers know the children and families deeply. That knowledge, drawn from many facets of a child’s life, lets us cultivate an education that studiously meets their needs.
Children learn best when given freedom within limits. True to Casa de Bambini, the original Montessori school, Three Chairs prioritizes a free-flowing indoor/outdoor classroom during the workcycle. One teacher is positioned in our outdoor classroom, a designated space to the side of our building, so children can recieve and practice lessons in the fresh air. We also have a large backyard, reserved for free play and gardening during recess and Terrabimbi aftercare.
It matters to us that families understand their child’s early schooling. We send weekly updates on the lessons your child is receiving, along with notes on how we see them developing socially, academically, emotionally, and physically. We also host community events throughout the year, from a winter concert to a springtime tea party, all planned and prepped by the children themselves. Families are as much a part of the school as the children and teachers.
